Due to popular demands and plenty of sold-out shows in the past, The Cinematheque is doing a second run of Studio Ghibli retrospective this Summer! A total of 16 Ghibli films will be screened throughout July 4 – August 5, 2013. With the exception of Ponyo, all films will be shown in Japanese language with English subtitles.
The program includes two rare titles — Only Yesterday and The Ocean Waves — never released in North America. It also features two films not included in The Cinematheque’s first presentation of the retrospective in December: popular Ponyo, a great favourite of children, and the recently-released From Up on Poppy Hill, the latest wonder from Studio Ghibli.
The Cinematheque theatre is giving away 2 pairs of Ghibli movie tickets to 2 lucky winners!

From the legendary and highly celebrated Studio Ghibli (Spirited Away, Totoro, and Princess Mononoke) comes From Up on Poppy Hill, the uniquely inspired and highly anticipated coming-of-age story from Goro Miyazaki and Hayao Miyazaki.
Set in Yokohama in 1963, the latest animated feature from Studio Ghibli is a poignant teen love story, graceful, understated but full of feeling. Written by Hayao Miyazaki and directed by his son Goro, the movie transports us to a bustling seaside town, with its misty harbor, sun-drenched gardens, shops and markets, and some of the most mouthwatering Japanese home-cooking set to film.
Thanks to Vancity Theatre, we have a few movie tickets to give away. We will be running a few contests on our social media websites. Each randomly selected winner will receive a pair of free movie tickets of their choice (subtitled or dubbed).
