About

It’s time for the AMV contest again! Unleash your creativity and skills with video editing programs to create the best anime music video of the year and impress the audience!

Submissions will be accepted until July 25th, 2017

Rules and File Formats

Rules

  • DEADLINE: 25th July 2017, Monday, 00:00:00 PDT (UTC -7)
  • All entries must list the anime used at the end of their AMVs. We’ve had massive requests from audiences to show what anime are in these AMVs
  • Entries must be a minimum of 1 minute and a maximum of 6 minutes. Keep in mind that we do pre-screen entries for quality.
  • Up to 2 entries per team OR person. Multiple entries are allowed (max 2). Please fill up one submission form per entry.
  • By submitting your video(s), you agree to let us play, copy, and use it to promote the event. Requests for removal will be put into consideration and handled on a case by case basis.
  • Most of your video must be anime/video game footage. This is an anime convention. Use your best judgement.
  • Most of your audio must be music. There is no arbitrary magic number for the amount of music. Some narration/dialog is fine. Use your best judgement.
  • NSFW content should be limited.
  • The screening is open to the general public. Entries with excessive offensive language, nudity, and/or violence might not be accepted. We accept entries with some NSFW content, but keep it reasonable. Use your best judgement.
  • Please do not include intros or outros (Credits at the beginning or end of the video) to your AMV. This is to ensure that the duration limitations are equally respected. It is fine to integrate credits into the AMV itself.
  • If your entries have won 1st place/Best in Show at any other conventions before 5th August 2016, it will not be accepted.
  • This is to give everybody a fair chance. This rule only applies to those who won 1st place/Best in Show. 2nd+/runner-up is fine.
  • All winning AMVs will be available on Anime Revolution’s YouTube account within 3 weeks post-convention. Winning participants can request to have the posting of their submission delayed for up to 2 months. Basically, if you don’t want it posted yet for whatever reason, just let us know.
  • All submissions must be labelled in the following format:
    (AMVtitle)_Nickname_FirstnameLastname_email[eg, (Pure)_Zerothic_YuiHirasawa_Yui123@gmail.com]
If the submissions are not labelled in the format above, the submission will be automatically disqualified.

Breaking any of these would likely disqualify your entry. This WILL be enforced more strictly for this year’s contest.

  • Don’t use content from streaming sites like YouTube/Crunchyroll/etc.
  • No subtitles, watermark, or logos on the entry that was not added by you. Broadcast watermarks are fine. We’ll arrange to let you watermark your own entry before it gets posted online.
  • Use the proper aspect ratio. Artistic license aside, there is often only one main choice for this. Use your best judgement.
  • No interlaced footage in the entry. Progressive please.

Accepted File Formats & Codecs

You will have a chance to resubmit if it’s not in an accepted format. Quality is not guaranteed if we fix it for you. Please avoid 10bit entries for now.
Video:
This is to avoid having to deal with playback issues on exotic format. This is not difficult to correct but it is unnecessary work.

  • H.264/AVC (.mp4 container, this is the preferred format)
  • MPEG2 (.mpg container)
  • MPEG transport stream (.TS container)
  • AVIs are fine, but H264 AVIs are automatically rejected; no exceptions

Audio:
This is flexible as long as audio quality is not severely degraded
Resolution:
This is flexible as long as the aspect ratio is correct. Here are some suggestions:

  • 640×480
  • 720×480
  • 1280×720
  • 1440×1080
  • 1920×1080

Frame Rate:
This is to minimize playback issues
Either 23.976fps (24fps) or 29.97fps (30fps)
Playback
The equipment is not finalized yet. It is difficult to know what the playback resolution will be or what is even available. This likely won’t be finalized until after the contest entry period ends.

Rules

Anime Revolution Rules and Guidelines

  • Have an AR 2017 Pass; We cannot guarantee the time of the contest so contestants MUST be available for all three days
  • Must read and agree to all AniRevo Idol rules;
  • Consent to allow AR to use all images for promotional purposes in any media form;
  • Adhere to AR Rules and Regulations, especially those pertaining to Appearance, Costumes, Cosplays, and Props;
  •  Complete all responsibilities and previous obligations, if you are an AR Staff and/or volunteer.

AniRevo Idol Contest Rules and Guidelines:

  • All songs must be from anime, video games, Japanese drama or soaps, J-pop, J-rock, J-rap, J-R&B or Japanese folk. English or other non-Japanese songs from the dubbed version of an anime series or video game are also acceptable, but must be approved by the coordinator prior to the preliminaries.
  • Participants will choose three (3) songs in order to avoid duplicates in the competition. This is a first come, first serve basis. It is not necessary to use a different song for each stage of the contest, but it is suggested to sing something new should the contestant advance to the finals. Songs will be screened for strongly inappropriate themes/ graphic descriptions, as this is an all ages event.
  • Memorization of the lyrics is required for the AR Idol finals, but entrants may use a cheat sheet for the preliminaries ONLY.
  • During the preliminaries, contestants have only two (2) minutes to perform due to time constraints. Time will begin at the start of actual words, as some intros are incredibly long. Finalists will be able to perform the entirety of their song during the finals. Songs must be no shorter than two (2) minutes in duration, and no longer than six (6) minutes and thirty (30) seconds.
  • Only one entry per person/duet is permitted. Duets are considered one entry. Group acts are reserved for AniRevo’s Got Talent (sorry!)
  • You may dance and use props, but any forms of confetti, glitter, etc. and things. Thrown off stage will not be allowed. Non-performing back-up dancers are not permitted.
  • Fire, water, explosives, and anything that could potentially pose a safety hazard as assessed by convention staff will not be allowed.
  • No auditions are necessary, but all who wish to participate must sign up online by deadline cut off: July 15th, 2017 (Spots in the contest will be first come, first served).
  •  Please provide all official karaoke tracks in .mp3 format by uploading them to the form provided below. No a cappella will be allowed in the finals, we may be able to accommodate guitars, but it is preferred that songs be instrumental tracks in .mp3 format. If you have any specific questions regarding the use of instruments, please note this in the notes section on the submission form. Audio files will only be accepted via Dropbox link in .mp3 format.
  • It is recommended that hopeful participants pre-register for Idol due to the organizational complications of registering on site. An entry cap of thirty (30) entries has been imposed (duet entries are considered to be a single entry.) In the event of a cancellation or no-show, interested parties present at the preliminaries who did NOT pre-register will be allowed to participate until the limit has been reached. It is not guaranteed that there will be space for those who do not pre-register.
  • Pre-registered participants have until one week before Anime Revolution 2017 to change their song selections. Any submitted after Friday July 28th, 2017 will not be accepted.
  • The preliminaries will take place on Friday, August 4th, 2017. Only contestants present for the preliminaries may advance to the finals. The Finals will take place on Sunday August 6th, 2017. Every entry must be able to present for both days.

ANIME REVOLUTION 2017: POKEMON LEAGUE CHALLENGE RULES

How to Participate
All attendees that wish to participate in the event must have an Anime Revolution 2016 badge visible. Participants must also have their own 3DS/2DS and a copy of either Pokemon X, Y, Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire. All gym leaders and Elite four will be roaming the the Vancouver Convention center on Day 1 and will be identifiable by their armband so make sure you keep a lookout for them!
General Rules
1. Participants must have an Anime Revolution 2017 badge visible in order to battle.
2. Participants may challenge all Gym Leaders and Elite Four once per day. This is to allow everyone a turn to battle and for Leaders to enjoy the other events going on during the convention.
3. There is a maximum time limit of 10 minutes per battle. Exceeding the time limit results in a victory for the player that has the least amount of fainted Pokemon or whichever Pokemon has the most HP if there are only 1 Pokemon left for each player.
4. There will be 8 Gym Leaders, 4 Elite members and 1 Champion for 2016. Just like the video games, In order to challenge the Elite Four you are required to have all 8 gym badges.
5. In addition, challengers may choose which Gym Leader they want to battle first and once a challenger has obtained all 8 badges, can challenge any Elite four member in any order.
6. Please keep in mind that all Gym Leaders and Elite Four are AniRevo attendees just like you. We have things we want to see, so note there will be times when we’re not able or willing to accept challengers. In general, leaders will remove their armband when they’re not accepting challenges.
7. All Gym Leaders and Elite Four are all volunteers and are trying to make this experience fun for you. We would appreciate it if you would return the favor.
8. Just to keep in mind, the Event Organizers will be overseeing the event. If we see that there is misconduct during the event, we will intervene and issue a warning. If a challenger receives multiple warnings, that person will be unable to participate for the duration of the event and in extreme cases will have their Anime Revolution badge confiscated.
9. Also, if the organizers feel that there is a need for more Leaders during the convention they will step in and challengers will be notified on the Facebook group and AniRevo Twitter of their involvement.
10. We will be using the “Battle with Someone Nearby” IR connection option. This will automatically level Pokémon down to level 50 if they are above, and, unlike in previous gen games, it WILL level your Pokémon up if they’re below level 50. So you can use whatever Pokémon you like!
Detailed Rules
1. Game type: Challengers must own a either a New 3DS, 3DS or 2DS and have a copy of Pokemon Sun, Moon or Pokémon X, Y, Omega Ruby, or Alpha Sapphire to participate, as all our gym leaders will be using X, Y, Omega Ruby, or Alpha Sapphire.
