Trubbishbin
A wild Trubbishbin has appeared!
Active in the Canadian cosplay community since 2001, Tru is a self-taught creator whose first fully handmade costume earned a Hall Cosplay workmanship award at Anime North 2003. Just one day later, they and a group of friends swept the same convention’s masquerade, taking home Best in Show for both construction and presentation.
Having accomplished the goal they set for themselves from the start, Tru stepped away from competition and turned their focus to the organized chaos behind the scenes. Since then, they’ve judged contests across the country—including Otafest, Animethon, and Anime Revolution – and in 2009 co-founded Otafest’s Costume Showcase, a celebrated event dedicated entirely to craftsmanship without the pressure of performing onstage.
Tru has been the master of ceremonies, managed tech, and served as co-director and director for both Calgary Expo and Edmonton Expo. In 2013, they were invited to Emerald City Comic Con to help restructure and support its masquerade. Most recently, at Anime Toronto 2023, a last-minute scheduling mishap left the cosplay event in limbo—until Tru was asked to step in and pulled off a fully judged and hosted show with less than two hours’ notice.
Today, Tru runs a secret workmanship contest at Otafest, affectionately dubbed “the contest you didn’t know you entered” among staff and longtime attendees. In 2025, they joined the Katsucon Photosuite team as a photographer, bringing their sharp eye and passion for precision to a new creative perspective.
With over two decades of experience, Tru remains deeply committed to the heart of cosplay: creativity, craft, and the community that brings it all to life.
